About the arena
How Makers Clash works
Makers submit apps. Visitors judge quick 1v1 battles. Every vote moves a rating, and the best apps climb a public ranking. The point is exposure: every app gets shown to real people who can try it in one click.
You see two submissions side by side: preview, pitch, maker and a Try it link that opens in a new tab.
Pick the one you’d rather use with ← or →, a click or a tap. Not sure? Skip with S.
The winner gains rating, the other loses the same amount, and the next battle slides in.
How ratings work
Every app starts at 1,500. When you vote, the app you pick takes rating points from the other one. How many depends on how surprising the result was: beating a higher-rated app is worth a lot, beating a lower-rated one is worth little. It’s the Elo method, the same idea used to rank chess players.
| Battle | Winner | Loser | Points moved |
|---|---|---|---|
| Even match | 1,600 | 1,600 | +12 −12 |
| Favourite wins | 1,700 | 1,500 | +6 −6 |
| Upset | 1,500 | 1,700 | +18 −18 |
| Big favourite wins | 1,900 | 1,500 | +2 −2 |
| Big upset | 1,500 | 1,900 | +22 −22 |
- A single vote moves at most 24 points, and always at least 1.
- Points are only ever moved, never created: whatever the winner gains, the other app loses.
- The record, like 142–61, counts battles won and lost.
- Rank is the position by rating among the apps in the arena.
- Skipping changes nothing: no points, no win, no loss.
- If a review finds rigged votes, they’re removed and every rating is worked out again as if they never happened.
Fairness rules
- One vote per person per matchup. Signing in keeps it that way.
- Makers can’t vote in their own battles.
- Every new app gets at least 30 battles in its first two weeks, so everyone gets seen.
- Suspicious voting (bursts from one network, brand-new accounts) is held for review and can be voided.
